Alan’s Story – Fluid Power House
Alan Wheatley, Branch Manager – Fluid Power House
Vaughan, ON
When did you start with Motion Canada? October 1, 2019. But I have been an employee of Fluid Power House since 2003.
As a Fluid Power House (FPH) employee who recently joined the Motion Canada team, how has your experience been?
As an original FPH owner, my experience has been overwhelmingly positive, not just for myself but for our employees. Working for a large, employee-focused organization such as Motion Canada is the opportunity we were hoping for with the acquisition.
What do you like about working at Motion Canada?
While it has only been a few months since we became part of the Motion Canada family, I do feel that Motion Canada as an organization made a lot of effort to make our staff feel welcome!
Is there something unique or specific about your role that you really enjoy?
My role as branch manager is interesting as I love working directly with customers will continue to do so, while working with the Motion Services team to develop business strategies for the future.
What does “People & Culture” mean to you as an employee at Motion Canada?
While I have only been with Motion Canada for a few months, I feel that it is really a team effort and all staff work towards the betterment of the whole organization. They value all employee contributions that drive success.
Do you have any advice for anyone just starting at Motion Canada?
Take advantage of the significant personal development and training opportunities. At FPH we have always valued vendor and personal training as an important part of self-development, so it’s great that the same values are promoted at Motion Canada. The training opportunities are essentially endless!
At Motion Canada, we believe that to be a partner with employees means giving employees what they need to be successful and providing outstanding culture and benefits (among other things!). What does be a partner mean to you?
I agree with that comment. It is clear to me that others in the company want to see us succeed and Motion Canada will continue to give us the tools we need to be a successful branch.
What is your favourite “guilty pleasure” song or artist?
I listen to many different musical artists across many genres. Right now, I am hooked on The National after I saw them last summer in Hamilton.
Is there a TV or movie character who you identify with/is basically you?
People say I look like Ed Robertson from Barenaked Ladies or Joe Rogan. I have a bit of Joe’s sense of humour in me as well.
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go any why?
Hawaii as I have owed my wife Cathy that trip since we got married 20 years ago.
Are you an introvert or an extrovert?
Definitely an extrovert. You need that in sales!
